Continuing Education for Funeral Directors:

A New York State Requirement

Funeral directors, by New York State Law, are required to receive continuing education each biennium in order to maintain their licenses to practice in New York. Continuing education Units (CEUs) are available through several venues by Department of Health approval of the educational providers.

The Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association (NSFDA) is a Registered Statutory Provider with the New York State Bureau of Funeral Directing and each biennium provides the venue for an excess number of the CEUs necessary for licensure.

General NSFDA Meetings are held five times a year, in almost all cases on the second Tuesday of the months of January, March, May, September and November. The meetings are usually held at The Irish Coffee Pub in East Islip and consist of dinner, a general meeting and a continuing education session 50 minutes) or occasionally, two CEUs (100 minutes). There is one attendance price for members and another for non-member Licensed Funeral Directors.

Registration for meetings is pre-paid by mail and reservations are accepted beginning only on the first of the month in which the meeting is being held. A registration form is available in the NSFDA newsletter which is mailed to arrive before the upcoming meeting or by faxing a request to 631-765-3737.

A Caveat: NSFDA does not confirm reservations.
